10 C.E.R.T. members participated in a 2 phase Search and Rescue drill on Sunday, June 24th. The drill scenario involved a large storm system that had caused extensive tree damage and power outages throughout the township. C.E.R.T. members staged and were briefed about the current situation.

We then moved into the first phase which involved searching a damaged structure, looking for 3 children and an injured firefighter. We located the children, performed a 360 examination of the structure, located the injured firefighter and evacuated them from the house.

The second phase involved searching for 5 lost hikers within South Mountain Reservation. One hiker was trapped under a fallen tree and was not able to move on their own. The tree had to be safely removed before transporting them out of the woods. The other hikers had leg injuries that prevented them from walking out on their own. They were located and removed from the woods using various stretchers and splints.
