West Orange C.E.R.T. members staffed the West Orange OEM Shelter for residents without heat and power following the October 29th snow storm that caused around 70% of the town to lose power for some amount of time.
For 6 days the shelter was staffed and open for 140 hours, providing heat, electricity, food, water, and a warm place to sleep for over 150 Township residents. 14 C.E.R.T. members spent time in the shelter, providing 380 volunteer hours to ensure the shelter was open to support the residents who needed it.
Township residents were able to spend over 1,330 hours in the shelter, charging phones, warming up, or even staying the night when their homes proved too cold to sleep in. Residents in the shelter had access to showers, plugs to charge phones and computers, and food for those who needed to stay for an extended period.
