Following Hurricane Irene approximately half of the Township of West Orange was left with little or no water pressure, and those with water pressure were under an advisory to boil their tap water before drinking it. As a result NJ American Water was distributing bottles of water and providing a tanker truck to fill containers at West Orange High School until the water issues could be resolved.
C.E.R.T. was deployed to assist with traffic in the High School parking lot, as well as to help with giving out the bottles of water and helping residents refill their containers. While at the High School we worked with Nick Allegrino, Deputy Coordinator, West Orange Office of Emergency Management(OEM), Migdalia Wagner, West Orange OEM, and NJ American Water employees. Throughout the week we continued to help staff the distribution site. We had such a good turnout that we ended up giving some members the day off Friday night when we had more volunteers then we anticipated needing from our experiences earlier in the week.
